The Common Sense Program

The Ellards purchased the George Harris, Circle H Ranch at Winona, MS and a number of Hereford cattle at the famed Circle H Ranch Dispersal in November, 1982. Mr. George's cows combined with purchases from Carlson Herfords, Spirtwood, ND; the Hensons' at Minot, ND; Wayne Haygood's Indian Mound Ranch, Canadian, TX; Lone Star Herefords, Henrietta, TX; and BB Cattle Company, Connell, WA laid the foundation for the genetics in the current EE Hereford cow herd. Herd bulls purchases from Holden Herefords have further strengthened the Advance Domino bred cowherd.

Superior performance, structural and maternal soundness, and showring acceptability were characteristics emphasized in establishing this great herd. Emphasis to buy only the best from the best was instrumental in the predictability of today's cowherd.

The same criteria were used to start our Angus herd in 1990. The entire McMichael Angus cowherd at Amite, LA compiled with herd bull and females purchased from Hyline Angus, Manhattan,MT created the foundation for one of the most productive herds in America.

Today's herds are the results of line-bred predictability (with emphasis on stacking great cow families). While the hereford herd is intense in L1 Domino genetics, the Angus herd is extremely line bred to Rito 149. EE's great young 338 son, EE Right Time 039, traces 14 times to 149 and is an example of the EE emphasis on line bred performance and predictability.
